Working Principle
The core of the automatic lift pass box is not simply opening doors for loading goods, but turning the transfer process into a controlled workflow. For transfer operation: the outer door opens first, the operator places items inside the cavity and closes the outer door. At this moment, the inner door remains interlocked and cannot be opened simultaneously. If the unit is fitted with a UV germicidal lamp, surface sterilization can be performed on items inside the cavity. If equipped with air shower or laminar flow purification system, high efficiency filtered clean air will purify the cavity air and the surface of goods.
Once the preset procedure finishes, the inner door rises automatically. Personnel on the clean side take out the goods and close the inner door to complete one transfer cycle. The lift door is driven by electric motor, supporting one-touch button, foot switch or sensor control, which facilitates operation when operators carry goods with both hands. Some models are equipped with infrared anti-pinch sensors. The lifting motion stops automatically when obstacles are detected to prevent pinching injury or product damage.
Lifting & Interlock Mechanism
The lifting system consists of motor, guide rail, door panel, control unit and safety sensors. When the door rises, goods can be moved in and out smoothly. When the door falls, it presses tightly against the sealing strip to form a closed cavity and minimize air exchange between two zones.
The interlock mechanism is critical for cross-contamination prevention. Electronic interlock is realized via electromagnetic locks to ensure both doors cannot open at the same time. Mechanical interlock relies on connecting rods or latches for physical locking. GMP workshops, sterile laboratories and hospital CSSD usually prefer electronic interlock for higher reliability, and it supports status indication, delayed unlocking, alarm and network monitoring.
Purification & Disinfection Options
Automatic lift pass boxes are divided into three types: standard type, air shower type and self-cleaning laminar flow type.
-
Standard type: relies on double-door interlock and UV lamp for transfer and surface disinfection.
-
Air shower type: generates high-speed clean airflow through HEPA filters to blow dust off goods surface after loading; the nozzle wind speed is generally above 20 m/s.
-
Self-cleaning laminar flow type: continuously purifies cavity air with vertical or horizontal laminar flow, achieving ISO Class 5 (Class 100) cleanliness inside, suitable for sterile material transfer with strict cleanliness requirements.

Core Parameter Analysis
Key parameters to evaluate during selection:
-
Internal & External Dimensions: Internal size determines the maximum volume of transfer goods. Common internal sizes: 400×400×400mm, 500×500×500mm, 600×600×600mm, custom sizes available for production lines. External dimensions decide wall opening size and installation space.
-
Cleanliness Class: Standard pass boxes cannot maintain high-level cleanliness. Air shower type and laminar self-cleaning type can reach ISO Class 5 or ISO Class 6 depending on filter configuration and air supply mode.
-
Filter Efficiency: Self-cleaning and air shower models are normally fitted with H13 or H14 HEPA filters, with efficiency ≥99.99% for particles ≥0.3μm. Some units add pre-filters to protect HEPA elements.
-
Air Supply Velocity: Laminar self-cleaning type: 0.3–0.45 m/s in working zone; Air shower type: nozzle wind speed ≥20 m/s.
-
Interlock Mode: Electronic interlock: high reliability for GMP cleanroom management; Mechanical interlock: simple structure and low maintenance cost for basic clean transfer.
-
Lift Control: One-touch lift, foot switch lift, sensor lift and dual-side control, selected according to whether operators carry goods.
-
Safety Protection: Infrared anti-pinch, door status indicator, buzzer alarm, emergency stop and power-off protection.
-
Material & Sealing: Main chamber SUS304 stainless steel, internal rounded corners for easy cleaning. Sealing strips affect air tightness and pressure stability of cleanrooms.
-
Power Supply & Power Rating: Standard AC 220V/50Hz, low motor power, overall noise ≤65 dB(A).

Application Scenarios
Automatic lift pass boxes are widely used in hospital CSSD, sterile dispensing rooms, operating rooms, pharmaceutical clean workshops, biological laboratories, food clean areas and electronic cleanrooms. It brings obvious improvement on efficiency and safety especially for heavy goods transfer, scenarios where operators need to handle goods with both hands, and occasions requiring less hand contact with door handles.
For product promotion, the automatic lift pass box can focus on four selling points: electric lifting for less contact, double-door interlock to avoid air convection, optional laminar flow / air shower purification, infrared anti-pinch for safety, forming a clear product gradient against ordinary pass boxes, air shower pass boxes and laminar flow pass boxes.
