The daily application of paper-frame high-efficiency filters

Paper-frame high-efficiency filters (HEPA) are high-performance air purification devices with a paper or composite paperboard frame and glass fiber filter paper as the filter material. They are mainly used to capture extremely fine particles (such as dust, smoke, and bacteria) larger than 0.3 μm. They are cost-effective, lightweight, and easy to install and replace, making them the mainstream choice for end-of-line filtration in clean environments.
1. Core application fields
1. Electronics and semiconductor manufacturing (main application)
Used to control air dust and ensure product yield.
Scenarios: Wafer lithography / etching rooms, chip packaging and testing workshops, LCD/OLED factories, hard disk / magnetic head workshops.
Grade: ISO Class 4-7 clean rooms, commonly H13-H14 grades.
Installation: FFU (fan-filter unit), clean room shelters, laminar flow hoods at the end.
2. Biopharmaceuticals and hospitals (sterile / high hygiene requirements)
Pharmaceuticals: GMP A/B sterile filling lines, raw material drug workshops, laboratories.
Medical: Operating rooms, ICUs, isolation wards, sterile dressing rooms, biosafety cabinets.
Function: Intercept bacterial and virus aerosols to prevent cross-infection.
3. Food and cosmetics processing
Scenarios: Baking, beverages, health supplements, cosmetics sterile filling / packaging workshops.
Function: Filter air-borne microorganisms and dust to avoid product contamination.
4. Precision instruments and aerospace
Scenarios: Optical lens / lens assembly, precision machinery assembly, aerospace precision component workshops.
Function: Prevent small particles from scratching or corroding the precise surface.
5. Data centers and high-end equipment protection
Scenarios: Server rooms, precision air conditioners, fresh air systems for cabinets.
Function: Filter dust to prevent circuit board short circuits and poor heat dissipation.
6. Spraying and industrial purification
Scenarios: Automotive / household appliance / precision parts spray painting rooms, dust-free coating lines.
Function: Ensure air supply cleanliness to avoid particle appearance on the paint surface and pinholes.
7. Commercial / household purification (widely used applications)
Scenarios: High-end office buildings / hotels’ fresh air, household air purifiers, central air conditioning systems.
Function: Efficiently remove PM2.5, pollen, second-hand smoke, and odors.
2. Application characteristics of paper-frame high-efficiency filters (why they are widely selected)
Economy: 30%-50% lower than metal-frame HEPA filters in price, single-use, maintenance-free.
Lightweight: Weight is only 1/3 of metal-frame, facilitating transportation, installation, and high-altitude operations.
Good sealing: Paper frame + sealing rubber strips, combined with standard frames, with low leakage rate.
High versatility: Standard sizes are many, customizable, suitable for FFU, air conditioning boxes, clean benches, and other equipment.
Single-use: Replace after contamination, no secondary pollution, no cleaning cost.
3. Typical application combinations (multi-stage filtration)
Paper-frame high-efficiency filters are usually the last stage, and the front end needs to be equipped with primary / intermediate protection:
Fresh air → G4 paper-frame primary (intercept large particles)
→ F8 intermediate (protect the high-efficiency)
→ H13-H14 paper-frame high-efficiency (terminal fine filtration)
Function: Extend the lifespan of the high-efficiency filter, reduce resistance, stabilize system operation.
4. Key points for daily use and replacement
Replacement cycle:
Cleanroom / hospital: 6-12 months
Electronics / data centers: 9-12 months
Commercial / household: 12-18 months
Judgment basis: Pressure difference ≥ initial resistance by 2 times (approximately 400 Pa), significant decrease in air volume.
Replacement procedure: Power off → Wear mask and gloves → Seal the old filter → Clean the frame slot → Seal the new filter → Check for leaks.
5. Applicable vs. Inapplicable Scenarios
✅ Applicable
Cleanroom end, FFU, laminar flow hoods
Air conditioning / fresh air units, air purifiers
Aerosol-free workshops, operating rooms, laboratories One-time, low-cost, lightweight requirements
❌ Not applicable (suggest metal frame)
High temperature (>60℃), high humidity, corrosive gas environment
Long-term vibration, frequent disassembly and assembly, and repeated cleaning required situations
Ultra-efficient (ULPA, >H14), zero leakage strict requirements
